Junk & Po

The name Junk & PO derived from a word play of the game Jan Ken Po, commonly known as Rock Paper Scissors. Just as the game is based on choosing a tool to overcome your opponent, Junk & PO utilizes an analogous mentality throughout the creative process — with “tools” being various art mediums and “opponents” being self-expression and effective communication. It is also my philosophy for all areas of life: Every moment presents an opportunity for play time!

Junk & PO specializes in fashion and portrait photography. Currently, I am a published photographer and the lead photographer for Mahal Style and FashionGun.com.

The Artist

I am a Philippine-born, Guam-raised, San Diego-residing, full-time artist. I discovered the world of art at the age of three, when I “borrowed” my babysitter’s watercolor set and watched the chalky blocks dissolve under a trickling cascade of faucet water. The boundless stream of pigments ignited my interest of how colors interacted with each other, and an instant obsession emerged. Since then, my eyes have been constantly scanning my surroundings to analyze the visual relationship of light, lines, and shapes through nature, people, and human emotions, inevitably recording my observations through any medium I could get my hands on. Through extensive self-study and practice, I will always consider myself a perpetual student of the arts.

The Photographer

My passion for photography began at the age of six, when I received my first 35mm Kodak camera shortly after attempting to disassemble my grandfather’s broken SLR camera. Observing the world through a viewfinder, as well as the act of capturing and preserving memories on film simply mesmerized me. When I was 16, I began my career as a freelance photographer and reporter for Guam’s primary newspaper, Pacific Daily News. Two years later, I was hired as a 2nd shooter for Guam’s largest wedding photography company, Tropical Color, whose international clientele included Watabe Weddings and Leo’s Bridal. In the winter of 2011, I launched my photography business, specializing in baby/family portraits and weddings. In March of 2012, the inescapable whirlwind that is fashion photography came knocking at my door and … the rest will be history.
